Artist's Comments

Here is a work in progress original piece I am currently sculpting using Super Sculpey Grey. I am leaning towards using real hair strands instead of sculpting the hair. The sculpt stands 10" high and 10" wide. As you can see I used chicken and turkey bones placed around the skulls.

I've seen a few interpretations of ancient Greek mythological creatures but Harpy WIP by *Blairsculpture is definitely very close to how I envision a Harpy. The more grotesque look and horrific parody between human features and that of a large bird have been carefully eased together. The detail likewise is wonderfully done, from the clawed feet and scratch skulls to the feathers and features of the face. (Featured by ^Thebuild)

Outstanding work! I like the way you depicted the Harpy. Most paintings I've seen of the creature show a beautiful woman sort of squashed into a bird's body. Your version makes a lot more sense.

Instant fave! Beautiful sculpture. The detail is amazing along with the interesting composition.

Just wondering, did you use any other materials apart from clay and bones? And what clay did you use? :)
